Cock & Bull Hotel (Cairns, QLD)

The Cock & Bull was bound to be amongst the first pubs we visited for ABIEP as, being that it’s the closest pub to Rob’s office, we have lunch there semi-frequently. We were just about to head out the door for a stroll down to the pub when Lee turned up at the office and decided to join us and be designated driver.

The C&B is (loosely) themed as a traditional English pub but in reality is a 22 year old building the some may feel is in need of some re-decorating. The hotel has three bars but only one was open when we visited on a Tuesday afternoon. The bar is small and cosy but cosy isn’t really what you need on a bright sunny afternoon so after ordering lunch and grabbing a beer, we headed out to the large outdoor eating at the front of the pub. Lunch was ready promptly and the food was good pub grub – generous serves of whatever you ordered served with chips. The staff were efficient but disinterested at first but quite friendly when I went in to ask them if they knew anything about the history of the site. After a couple of beers and a chat we were off and sure to return to the C&B – it is just down the road after all!
